The City of Grande Prairie contracted with EDA Collaborative in Edmonton, Alberta, to develop a design for a 30m x 180m linear site (originally called the South Montrose Greenway) adjacent to a new library and renovated museum. The program in the terms of reference was initially loosely defined. Erik Mustonen saw the site’s potential as the initial phase of a larger civic centre development, and he proposed a multi-level urban plaza, which the City accepted. He then prepared concept and design development plans. Funding issues in 2012, however, delayed its implementation. It is now under construction as the South Montrose Concourse.
